Today’s Papers: 01/31/08

Virtually every Hays County paper advances today’s commissioners court meeting on roads. The Hays Press, The Hays Highway, Wimberley View, Kyle-Buda Eagle and Dripping Springs Century News (all here; subscription required) all take cracks at reading tea leaves. After months of mind-numbing maneuvering and stalling, scuttlebutt is state transportation officials have agreed to leave a $133 million road package in tact except move money originally applied toward widening Ranch Road 12 to Interstate 35 and U.S. 290. Such an offer may divide usual allies. Pct. 3 Commissioner Will Conley is working with Wimberley officials on a revamped parkway design for the road and wants to keep the state money in his precinct. Pct. 2 Jeff Barton is presumably less concerned about Ranch Road 12 than he is about preserving funding for Farm-to-Market Road 1626. … IN CASE YOU MISSED IT, News8Austin had cameras rolling when angry property owners and managers barnstormed a City Hall meeting over the proposed rental registration and inspections system. … Also, TODAY’S PAPERS wishes the best to fellow defacto Hays County Press Association member Murlin Evans who has accepted a job as a traveling propagandist and is leaving Holly Media Group (which publishes Dripping Springs and Kyle-Buda weeklies the Wimberley twice-weekly.) We’ll miss him at the flying circus.

TODAY’s PAPERS reads the region’s newspapers and watches the news so you don’t have to.
