Frisco, TX - League officials named Southland Conference Players of the Week Tuesday and Texas State junior Lance Loftin was awarded Hitter of the Week accolades after his weekend performance. This is Texas State’s third individual honor this season. The Temple Junior College transfer joins Thomas Field (Hitter) and Steven Siers (Pitcher) in individual recognition. This is Loftin’s first SLC award.

In the Bobcats regular season closing series, the Waco native led the offense with a spectacular showing from the plate. Loftin powered the offense against the league-best UTSA, belting out two three-run homers in the series opener to lift the ‘Cats to a 10-3 victory in the Alamo City. When the I-35 rival traveled north to Bobcat Field, Loftin maintained the force at the plate, hitting his third triple-RBI home run in game three accompanied with a solo shot to seal the victory. He went 6-for-12 for an even .500 batting average against the Roadrunners and scored six runs. Loftin batted in a team-high ten RBI this weekend, a mark that more than doubled any other Bobcat’s weekly totals. The clean-up batter also amassed 18 total bases and concluded the week with a 1.500 slugging percentage.

Loftin is joined by Texas-San Antonio’s Bradley Chovanec and Central Arkansas’ Matt Whitaker in weekly honors, as the latter share the Co-Pitchers of the Week title. Chovanec is the first pitcher to win two player of the week awards this season and Whitaker takes home his first and team’s only weekly honor this season.
