RSVP meets with Kiwanis

The Kiwanis of San Marcos held their weekly meeting at Grin’s Restaurant at noon on Thursday. The group led by President Pam Cook hosted speakers Stephen Doerr and Ted Wolber from the RSVP Of South Central Texas; they were introduced by Del Brown. The group is sponsored through Texas Lutheran University. They spoke about their services for area seniors and opportunities for them in our area.

RSVP is America’s largest volunteer network for people age 55 and over. You can join RSVP and you join nearly 500,000 volunteers across the countries who are tackling tough issues in their communities.

Nearly 61 million Americans volunteered in their communities in 2007 giving 8.1 billion hours of service worth more than $158 billion to America’s communities.

RSVP offers a full range of volunteer opportunities with thousands of local and national organizations. With RSVP, you choose how and where you want to serve. You choose the amount of time you want to give. And you choose whether you want to draw on your skills or develop new ones. In short, you find the opportunity that’s right for you.

With RSVP, you’ll receive pre-service orientation, training from the organization where you serve, and supplemental insurance while on duty.

Stephen Doerr, Project Director, told the group, ‘All of us will be seniors one day.” At 55 we are still pretty young.”

Ted Wolber, Assistant Director, said, “We have a dual purpose to enrich the lives of persons 55 and older and provide a quality volunteer experience.” For more information, call RSVP at 830-379-0300.

The group noted that September 18th at 6 p.m. they will hold their annual Installation Banquet at the Price Center.
