H-E-B/Bobcat block party, rained on — not rained out

The rain had come and gone, when Karese Jenkins explained to the writer, “We [Texas State cheerleaders and football players] bag groceries and help get them to people’s cars. And we give away hot dogs and drinks.”
Karese is a senior cheerleader from Houston. As she spoke, she was standing under an open tent at the H-E-B location at 200 W. Hopkins. Parents, children, students and others dropped in and stayed briefly to share in the free hot dogs and soft drinks.
The next day, the Bobcats would take the field against Angelo State, but this afternoon they were ambassadors.
From 4 to 6 PM, before next day’s season opening game - as they do each year — players, cheerleaders, representatives of H-E-B and parking lot guests celebrate the H-E-B/Bobcat Block Party - rain or shine.
