Neighbors Plan ‘Texas Night Out’ Parties
Twenty neighborhoods in San Marcos are planning special events Tuesday, October 7 at the 25th Annual Texas Night Out Against Crime.
The annual event, designed to heighten awareness of crime prevention in neighborhoods, was rescheduled from August to October this year in San Marcos and many other Texas cities.
At Texas Night Out, residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors, police and city leaders.
San Marcos Police Sgt Bob Klett announced that many neighborhood events will be held in San Marcos Tuesday. They include:
Texas Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and generate support and participation for local anti-crime efforts. The event also seeks to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
The City Council has rescheduled its first October meeting to Monday, October 6 so that Council Members, staff and the public may participate in National Night Out.
San Marcos police will visit with neighborhoods and discuss Neighborhood Crime Watch programs, traffic enforcement and neighborhood issues.
City Council members, City staff, the San Marcos fire department, EMS and 911 Operators will visit gatherings throughout the City.
Many neighborhoods throughout San Marcos will host a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, and visits from police, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities and anti-crime rallies. San Marcos Texas Night Out parties have drawn enthusiastic participation in recent years.
